Qualified and experienced Science teacher, University Lecturer and former Research Director at GSK - currently a Science Tutor. Has held roles in senior research GSK and MRC UK; also contributed at senior level to London 2012 Drug Testing Lab, and invented a new class of mass spectrometry. A recent student went from Grade 6 GCSE to A at A2 chemistry and now studies at King's College London.

Mrs Maria Laura A

I decided to became a science teacher when I was 14 years old and that is what I have been doing since I concluded my teaching degree at the University of Lisbon in 2003. I Moved to London in 2013 and since then, I have been teaching biology to 6th form students and Science to secondary school students. I started work in UCL Academy in 2015 and in 2018 I become the Head of Biology of the UCL Academy in Camden. At Key Stage 4 I have successfully developed and delivered Double and Triple Science. Nearly 80% of my current timetable is A Level teaching, which is testament to my current school trusting me to deliver good quality teaching and results. My most recent ALPS score for my two A level classes was 2 with 74% of students on track to achieve A*-B grades. During my time as head of biology I have been responsible for creating and developing all the resources for biology from KS3 to KS5, as well as all of the biology assessments at KS4 and KS5.

Currently teaching Chemistry at an Ofsted Outstanding Grammar School in Essex. I have four current Y12 and Y13 Chemistry classes and I really enjoy teaching my subject! I have a first class Chemistry degree form the University of York, 5 years' experience a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, and in 2015 was appointed as Royal Society of Chemistry Teaching Scholar. At A-Level, 43% of my classroom students attain A* or A, and 93% achieve A*-C. At GCSE, 31% attain a level 9 and 82% attain levels 7-9. In my spare time I like to go fishing!
