I am a native speaker who is fluent in both traditional and simplified Chinese I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher and have several years’ experience working as a Chinese language teacher. Throughout my teaching career, I have striven to deliver a learning experience infused with authenticity, enthusiasm, inclusion and inspiration. A common feature of all my previous teaching assignments is my desire to contribute to the wider life of the schools to help children expand learning beyond the curriculum and achieve both academic and personal growth. For instance, I volunteered to run an language club facilitating in-depth study of Chinese language and culture where I demonstrated the cultural, ethnic and demographic diversity of China (just like its European counterparts) so that children could appreciate and grasp the intricate meaning and cultural messages behind languages and make informed language decisions in different social situations avoiding generalisations and cultural assumptions.
I am a national leader of education for Mandarin as the programme director of the Swire Chinese Language Centre Oxford overseeing the teaching of Mandarin in over 20 schools across the region. I am open to tutoring as a way of trialing methods of teaching which makes learning Mandarin much more accessible to pupils, so whoever wishes me to tutor them can expect to get a lot from my teaching while working at their own pace - as long as they demonstrate they are committed! As to my limited time, I will only take on students who are passionate about learning Mandarin, not only just to find someone to train them how to pass an exam. Currently studying a masters in teaching part-time, both under the tutage of Katherine Carruthers who is the author of the popular Jinbu series and Edexcel GCSE Chinese textbooks. I also have the HSK Level 6 and HSK Advanced Oral Test qualification.
