Hi, I'm Joe. I have 28 years of experience teaching science and maths to students from 11-18 years old. I have been an examiner for 15 years and have worked as a private tutor for over 14 years. I use Zoom video conferencing as part of my teaching and have now built this into my private work. I build good relationships with students and help guide them through all aspects of their studies; subject material, revision techniques as well as all-important exam techniques. I have degrees in General Science and Physics, with Astrophysics from the Open University and Exeter University. I am an Advanced Skills teacher helping all my students achieve their potential from those with learning difficulties through to Oxbridge candidates. I am able to break ideas down in a no-nonsense way and guide students through, not only the study of science but the preparation and examination of the subject. I have a friendly and supportive manner that aids students to feel more confident about their studies.
Qualified and experienced English teacher, teaching English Language from Primary and Prep through to GCSE and IGCSE ( including homeschooling experience). I have been a Head of Department of English and drama for 21 years. I have taught a range of subjects; consistently producing ‘outstanding lessons’ and excellent outcomes. I have taught students from key stage 2 to adult learners, and have extensive experience with a range of SEN, including with primary children, as well as designing schemes of work and individual education plans for SEN children. My expertise is in A level literature (poetry and Shakespeare) and have been an examiner at both GCSE and A level. I am able to evaluate key strengths and areas that require improvement for pupils that informs subsequent bespoke planning. For the past four years I have operated as a tutor of English, both face-to-face and on-line. I have helped over sixty students with immense success – over 80% per cent acquiring levels 8-9 at GCSE/A level and preparing many students to gain entrance into Independent and Grammar schools via the common entrance examination route. Alongside my independent work I have also worked as a consultant.

I love maths! My areas of specialism are working with students who have anxiety around maths and identifying and closing knowledge gaps to increase confidence. I have been lucky enough to teach maths in an outstanding secondary school, a private international school, and a large academy. Across the 14 years I have been teaching I have been Head of Mathematics in two different schools as well as Assistant Headteacher as part of the senior leadership team. I teach ages 11-18 and have taught GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, GCSE maths resist, and adult learners. I have also taught the International Baccalaureate to Studies and Standard levels.
