Mrs Barbara J

I have many years of experience as a primary teacher. As a class teacher, I have worked mainly in Key Stage 1 and lower Key stage 2. For some years, I was a support teacher in a mainstream school with children aged 5-11, who had a variety of learning needs. Before retraining for teaching, I worked as a speech and language therapist with preschool and early years children. I have good knowledge of language development and of teaching phonics and other strategies for reading in KS1 and I am skilled in identifying gaps in learning which may be affecting achievement in reading, writing and maths. I am currently working part time in a primary school supporting small groups and individuals and I also enjoy tutoring. I am committed, patient and enthusiastic and am experienced in choosing fun, practical teaching strategies that help children to make good progress from their starting points, so gaining confidence through success. I am keen to do more work as a tutor and enjoy working one to one.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
Primary, SEN, English, Maths, SATs
Qualifications:
PGCE Primary Education, Oxford Polytechnic. BSc (Ord) Speech Therapy, Leeds Polytechnic.
