Miss Lois H

Mrs Anne K

I am a qualified and experienced Primary and SEN Teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching in schools and working as a private tutor. I currently tutor full time. I specialise in working with children with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and ASD. I use methods that make sense to these creative and very imaginative learners, using visual techniques to learn to read, since phonics does not generally work for these children. My pupils learn to picture texts to make them easy to understand and to visualise spellings so they can remember them. I use similar techniques in maths, to make maths easy as well. I am also a qualified Davis Dyslexia Facilitator running dyslexia correction courses for children and adults. I also run parents' courses to help parents guide their children through a dyslexia correction process. This enables children to have a happier school experience and allows them to fulfil their potential. I teach all subjects and Key Stages across the Primary National Curriculum.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
Primary, SEN, SATs
Qualifications:
PGCE Manchester Metropolitan University (1984). BSc Home Economics, Manchester University (1983).

Mrs Catherine A

Qualified and experienced French teacher presently teaching at secondary schools in Wakefield and surrounding areas. I also have experience teaching French to primary school pupils and Spanish up to Key Stage 3. I am friendly and build good rapport with pupils from the offset as well as igniting a passion for French culture because once pupils are interested, they tend to enjoy learning the language much more. I have experience preparing pupils for their GCSEs and have worked for a year improving pupil’s speaking skills and confidence. The results at that school at the end of the year, were the highest in state schools across Wakefield. I have also undertaken roles supporting SEN pupils and am aware of how to make learning accessible to them. Whilst speaking and learning a foreign language can seem initially daunting, I aim to set pupil’s minds at ease and believe real learning happens by making mistakes and then addressing them by being shown how to. Finally, lessons should be fun and engaging!

SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
French

PGCE Secondary Modern Foreign Languages, Sheffield Hallam University (2020). BA (Hons) English Language & French (2018).
