Mrs Emma W

I have 3 children and I have been teaching for 14 years. I have taught in every year group in KS1 and KS2. I currently teach year 2. I lead a team of markers for the National Curriculum Reading SAT paper and also mark it myself. My passion is teaching math. I believe that every child can like maths if it is taught in the right way. I have a lot of experience in changing children’s view of maths. I have had many children that had no confidence and openly said that they hated maths. After tuition, at the very least they like it and for many children maths has become their favourite subject. My technique is to teach maths in a visual way that supports an undertaking of what number looks like. Repetition is key and varied to help memory and recall. I also love teaching literacy. The advantage of a tutor is the individualised learning you can provide. The key to teaching literacy is revisiting ideas and concepts until the child feel secure enough to use them naturally in their writing.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
Primary, SEN, SATs
Qualifications:
BA (Hons) Primary Education, Manchester Metropolitan University.

Ms Abigail F

I have been an English teacher for eighteen years, Head of English for eight of those years, and a Head of School for the past six years. As well as teaching English at KS3, 4 and 5, I am also a GCSE examiner and KS2 SATs examiner. I have also examined A-level Literature. I have taught all exam boards, either in my role as an English teacher or tutor, and my results at GCSE and A-Level are consistently excellent. At A-Level I tutor in the areas of genre, textual study, context, wider reading and extended coursework elements. Throughout lockdown, I taught via Zoom, and I am happy to offer tutoring via this medium to students as I have found it to be an excellent method of intervention. I graduated from the University of Durham in 1998 and worked as a Chartered Accountant for four years before completed my PGCE in English in 2003.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
English, English Language, English Literature
Qualifications:
PGCE Secondary English, Leeds University (2003). BA (Hons) English Literature, Durham University (1998).
