Highly qualified and successful teacher of German to A Level and French to GCSE. Experience of all key exam boards and a former AQA German examiner. Former Headteacher and leader of MFL, as well as teacher trainer. I truly understand the challenges of learning a language and have amassed over a 25 year teaching career a “Mary Poppins Bag of strategies” to ensure that all my students learn, make progress and enjoy themselves! I enjoy teaching students of all abilities, as I firmly believe that anybody can learn a language - it just sometimes takes a little bit of extra practice! I hold the CELTA qualification and am able to teach English as a Foreign Language to Upper intermediate level as well as Business English. I am an enthusiastic, passionate teacher – who will always go the extra mile for the benefit of my students. I believe that a student who feels confident and secure within their learning, who feels safe to ask questions and make mistakes - is one who will excel.
Currently working as a full-time tutor, teaching students GCSE Maths and Science and A level Chemistry. I have many years of experience working in industrial chemistry R&D before I retrained as a Science Teacher. Whilst employed in industry, I worked closely with Universities and Schools, supervising postgraduate and undergraduate students, and mentoring school pupils on attachment.
After gaining a BEd Honours degree in Primary Education I embarked on my now 12-year teaching career, teaching in a range of locations including London as well as many schools in and around Devon and Cornwall. During my teaching career, I have worked across the Key Stages, working with a wide range of educational professionals. I was nominated for South West Digital Educator of the Year and ran a number of projects which enabled my classes to appear on shows such as Newsround. I have also produced and directed children at the Theatre Royal and have a range of sporting coaching qualifications. Another position I have experience with, and have greatly enjoyed, is that of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). I have a PG Cert in Special Educational Needs and my work in this role has provided me with a vast knowledge of teaching children of a wide variety of abilities and ages. I now work solely as a private tutor to continue my passion for nurturing and educating children.
