With over 20 years teaching in both the state and private sector, I have the experience and the motivation to help people enjoy and succeed in this subject. Patience and understanding are needed to ensure that students achieve their potential and I have an abundance of these attributes! I have experience in both Primary and Secondary education, teaching basic numeracy, SATS, 11+, 13+, KS3 and GCSE mathematics. In 2008 I completed the SPLD in Education and this gave me an insight into how educational needs (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia etc.) affect a student's ability in mathematics and the strategies used to overcome them. I love learning myself and during lockdown I taught all my school's students using Microsoft Teams. Everybody should love learning!

Member since 2019 Mr Laurence C

Hello. I completed a maths degree at the University of St. Andrews in 2004 and then worked in a totally unrelated field until 2016 when I decided to try teaching. I completed a PGCE in secondary mathematics education 2016-2017 and worked in a private school in Cambridge for 6 months, though with a young family the time demands were too much and I made the decision to leave teaching. I am now an analyst which I enjoy a great deal as it involves working with numbers and data. I love maths, have done since I was the student and I think I would be able to help any student in a friendly 1:1 environment whether they struggle with maths or are already strong but want to get stronger!

As an example, I taught for 7 years at the Abbey School in Reading and more recently at Crosfields, a mixed Prep School in Reading. I therefore have experience of teaching both boys and girls and understand that they may learn in very different ways. I have been tutoring for the last few years preparing children for Grammar School entrance exams (Kendrick and Reading Boys) and other Private School Entrance Tests including Common Entrance at 13. My main tutoring, though, is working with children in order to help them improve their English and Maths Skills. I have taught pupils from KS1 through to KS3 and GCSE Maths Tuition for Foundation level.

I am a qualified Primary school teacher with nearly 30 years experience teaching children from Early Years to Year 6. I was the Maths subject leader for many years at my last school and am particularly skilled and interested in helping children achieve their potential in this subject. As a teacher who has worked across all age ranges within primary school I have always done my very best to ensure that all the children in my class achieve their potential. I continually strive to improve my own practice through CPD and reflection so that the needs of all children are met. My teaching and learning has consistently been judged as very good to outstanding for all year groups I have taught and I have a proven track record of achieving good progress and attainment for all children.
