A highly experienced, positive and encouraging teacher currently with 25 years of experience. Having taught all subjects to children from Year 2 up to Year 8 (13+ CE and scholarship), I have a strong grasp of children's needs and expected progress at every step of their formative years. I have been a Head of English (my specialism), and teach Maths and Reasoning (verbal and non verbal) to primary age children, as well as preparation for 11+ exams. My pupils have gained places at a range of independent schools near Guildford and across the South East. I am also experienced working with children who have Specific Learning difficulties. I look forward to instilling children with skills and a sense of confidence, inspiring them with engaging, targeted, effective teaching so that they take pleasure in learning and experience enjoyment and success.
The 20th of August 2020 was a very good day; I had several emails, texts and phone calls from my students (and their parents) because they had achieved quite remarkable results at A-level, GCSE and Entrance Exams. It is such a joy to know that those young people are on a path to success in such turbulent times. I love literature and have been teaching for 24 years across the age groups and abilities in the public and private sectors. I was Head of English at two independent colleges and have worked abroad teaching Business English to adults and EFL to foreign students. I have been an examiner for the AQA, and an OCR A-level moderator. Ofsted graded me 'outstanding' for instilling my pupils with a love of the written word. I have worked in a special school and had training in how to deal with autism, Asperger's, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc. Recently I have been tutoring for the Common Entrance exams and helped a boy get into the prestigious Stowe School.
I have over 20 years' experience teaching psychology at schools, colleges and the Open University. I teach all major Exam Boards using student-centred methods. I have a knowledge of cutting-edge theory, having completed a post-MA course 'Practice-based Learning in Educational Technology'. I enjoy teaching and inspire my students to think critically, for example, about research methods. Most of my students have achieved an A grade. My hobbies are Russian and homeopathy. I have high level civil service security clearance.
I have 13 years experience as a Senior Leader in school, I have been a faculty leader on several occasions and twice a Head of Science, as well as a departmental and House Leader. I have taught in 4 key stages, and have extensive experience of successfully teaching students with a range of additional needs. I have taught IT qualifications since 1992. I currently teach GCSE and A Level Computer Science, and Computing to Key Stage 3. I have many years of teaching IT/ ICT GCSE's and A Level equivalents and I am a visiting moderator for the Level 2 and 3 Cambridge Technical. I have more than 20 years experience of teaching IT. My results in this area have always been excellent.
