Mr David B

I am a qualified teacher with 18 years of teaching experience in both the Local Education Authority and independent schools. I have been a specialist upper key stage two / lower key stage three maths teacher for the past seven years and have considerable experience in preparing children for their common entrance exams (11+). I am 52 years old and am married with two grown-up daughters. I have a good understanding of the obstacles that children encounter when learning maths. To gain fluency in the subject I believe that children need to have an understanding of the 'why' of maths, rather than simply memorising procedures. This understanding will help them to make connections across the maths curriculum giving them confidence and a stronger foundation in the subject.
