I am a teacher with 25 years of classroom experience, comfortable with either home visits or remote learning. My main specialism is History but I also teach English up to GCSE and have a lot of experience with Entrance Exams and independent school scholarships. I ran the entrance exam and scholarship programme at a large independent school in Surrey for 7 years. I also offer UCAS advice and help with personal statements, if needed. I am friendly, approachable and adapt my teaching to the learner's needs and will always go the "extra mile".
Qualified and experienced High School Geography and History teacher for over 20 years. 3 years in the UK (1997-2000) and then 17 in Perth Western Australia where I continued to teach Humanities until I returned to live back in Brighton in 2018. In 2017 I won a teachers magazine award in Australia for their 'Unsung Hero'. In 2016 my Year 12 Geography class were one of the 10 highest scoring classes in Western Australia. I have travelled extensively and have been to all 7 continents including Antarctica and often use case studies where I can in my work. I am currently based at a renowned grammar school in South London but also have worked at a comprehensive school with a wider ability range. I independently teach History across KS3 and KS4, including providing assessment feedback and additional coaching to GCSE pupils. Prior to commencing my QTS training, I also taught Theology and Philosophy to KS3 classes on an unqualified basis and delivered private English tuition to an external GCSE pupil. In the next academic year, I intend to teach History and Government/Politics at KS5, having studied related subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels at two Russell Group universities. In addition to my subject knowledge expertise, I can confidently safeguard and have experience working with pupils from a range of backgrounds and abilities, including SEND and EAL.
I am an enthusiastic teacher, having taught Primary Education since 2014. I have a diverse range of experience teaching in different primary settings and leading core subjects such as English and Maths. I currently work as a Year 6 teacher and Year group Leader. I have experience teaching both KS1 and KS2, however much of my experience has been in upper KS2. This has really helped to develop my understanding of statutory assessment in Primary education. Alongside this, I have been an external moderator (KS2 Writing) for the DfE, and a member of the Sussex Maths Hub which has both helped to keep my knowledge and understanding of current trends, pedagogy and assessment up to date so that my pupils are always best prepared to reach their full potential. I am accredited SLE (English) and enjoy sharing my passion for learning with children to help them thrive and achieve the highest possible standards. I have a wealth of experience with support children of all abilities in the primary setting to achieve excellence
