I have been a teacher for over 26 years, I taught at Millfield Prep School and then became deputy head at Bristol Grammar Junior School. Latterly I was the head of Badminton Junior School. I have tutored pupils from the age of 5 to 13. I can provide tutoring for the whole subject or focus on a specific area which needs consolidating. My aim is to build your child's confidence and to ensure that they really enjoy the learning process. I have extensive experience of assessing and preparing pupils for entry into grammar and independent schools and have an in depth understanding of the processes involved which enables me to support and guide those considering applying for such places.

An experienced full-time tutor since 2011 with six years teaching experience in the secondary private and state sector in London and Wiltshire, I have been described as a bit of a polymath. I tutor a wide range of subjects, though my specialisms include English and history at all levels and maths up to and including GCSE. I excel at shaping and creating the evidence of quality learning, sparking creativity, and helping students to see the logical steps and links between one concept and another. With this comes confidence, curiosity, and even enjoyment in subjects previously found daunting and difficult. I have also taught EFL overseas, prepped students for entrance exams, was an examiner for Edexcel for many years, and more recently engaged in editing university applications and dissertations. I've worked with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, including SEN, primary, secondary and adult, and I genuinely love what I do.
I am currently a Senior Lecturer at BIMM Bristol. I teach a course named 'Analytical Perspectives' which examines culture, literature and music from key analytical perspectives such as philosophy, sociology, history and economics. I have a PhD in Shakespearean Attribution Studies, which is the study of canonical literature utilising linguistic, textual and historical features in order to determine chronology and authorship. My undergraduate degree was in English and Philosophy and I have always maintained a strong interest in English literature (particularly Shakespeare, but also Modernist Poetry, the Novel and poetry in general) as well as philosophy. I am currently writing an extended series of articles on issues of ontology and being which combine an existentialist approach to questions of identity, combining contemporary takes by Christakis, Pinker and Harari (among others). I have experience teaching English literature, music, history, politics, philosophy etc and previously have taught ages 15-21.
