I am a fully qualified, experienced Geography, History, and Science teacher based in Nantwich with SEN experience. My teaching methodology employs established cognitive science-based techniques, including starting lessons with recall tasks based on previously taught material. This is method is proven to enable learning to enter into long-term memory and not be forgotten as easily. I will then introduce new concepts slowly, frequently referring back to previous learning and real-world examples to aid understanding and build a conceptual schema in the student’s mind. I will ask numerous questions to check for understanding of the topic/concept before moving on. The student will then practise applying their new knowledge to exam questions, with my assistance via a carefully scaffolded framework of support. The ultimate goal is that a student is able to complete similar questions independently with the support framework removed and be able to recall the information at a later date.

I studied English at University to Masters Level and worked for several years in Preparatory schools both as Deputy Head and preparing children for the 11+ in English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning for both State Grammar and Independent Senior Schools. This has involved whole class teaching of the concepts and skills required and one to one modelling of exam answers and practice papers. I now combine my love of writing with my fascination with the world as the Head of Geography in an independent school. I am used to working with pupils at different ability levels and have a strong track record with exam results in English and Geography using various tools, particularly exam answer modelling, to help students achieve the best possible outcomes. My English helps me to support students with the quality of writing overall and specifically writing in Geography.

I am currently a full time Geography teacher at a Grammar School in South Manchester. I have over 7 years teaching experience including both GCSE and A Level. I can tutor for Geography and entrance exams (11+). I can now offer online as well as face-to-face tuition. Additionally I mark GCSE and A Level papers for AQA which gives me an in depth understanding of the requirements for the exam. I am also a Team Leader for AQA, managing other teachers through the marking process and quality checking papers. Working in a Grammar School and living in South Manchester for 30 years I also have a good understanding of the entrance exam requirements and can deliver 11+ tuition. I have a degree in Geography (2:1) and a Masters in environmental studies. Further to this I have also completed a PGCE in Geography education (distinction). Working with students one to one I can create a bespoke plan in order to most help achieve their target grade.
