Catherine A

Member since 2020 Mrs Catherine A

Qualified and experienced French teacher presently teaching at secondary schools in Wakefield and surrounding areas. I also have experience teaching French to primary school pupils and Spanish up to Key Stage 3. I am friendly and build good rapport with pupils from the offset as well as igniting a passion for French culture because once pupils are interested, they tend to enjoy learning the language much more. I have experience preparing pupils for their GCSEs and have worked for a year improving pupil’s speaking skills and confidence. The results at that school at the end of the year, were the highest in state schools across Wakefield. I have also undertaken roles supporting SEN pupils and am aware of how to make learning accessible to them. Whilst speaking and learning a foreign language can seem initially daunting, I aim to set pupil’s minds at ease and believe real learning happens by making mistakes and then addressing them by being shown how to. Finally, lessons should be fun and engaging!

I am a qualified and experienced teacher of English, currently working at Stoke-on-Trent College. I teach across the Primary sector, and offer preparation for SATs, 11+, Scholarship and School Entrance Exams including Latin where relevant. In addition, I teach across the Secondary curriculum offering English, History and French. Although my degree was primarily Classics, English and History are the subjects I have concentrated on in recent years, and students have benefitted from my teaching, feeling relaxed and confident with each subject, which has ensured success. Learning can only take place where clearly communicated ideas are fully understood by the learner; this is where I feel my strengths lie. I have had great success with students who have missed school due to health/anxiety issues - their grades going up by 2-3 levels.
