I hold a BA in French and Italian, a PGCE in modern languages and Welsh, and a Masters in Translation. I have travelled around the world teaching adults and teenagers, whilst learning new languages and perfecting the ones I know along the way. I worked at a top language school in Madrid, Spain and became fluent in Spanish. I later returned to the UK to complete a PGCE and have worked in British schools teaching modern languages and Welsh to key stages 3, 4, and 5. I am able to teach through both Welsh and English. My travels, experience, and studies mean that my lessons are linguistically-rich but also inform about culture and country-specific customs. I am up-to-date with various syllabuses but also individualise lessons to meet the specific requirements of the student. Teaching languages for me is a joy and I aim to transfer this passion for languages to those I teach.
Having just retired from teaching French for over 40 years, I am now looking to tutor students in the subject at all levels including at university standard. I was head of MFL in 2 schools in Gloucester and Swindon and have a wide range of examining experience. I have been a chief examiner for AQA IGCSE French, principal examiner for AQA GCSE French and am currently an assistant lead examiner for AQA GCSE French. I have also examined at A level. I firmly believe that academic excellence, allied to an outgoing nature made me a successful teacher and I would look to bring the same qualities to my job as a tutor. In addition, I have taught GCSE English and A level Sociology.
