I’ve taught English literacy, literature, and language from Reception through to Year 13, in schools and privately. I am currently a Senior Lecturer at BIMM Bristol. I teach a course named 'Analytical Perspectives' which examines culture, literature and music from key analytical perspectives such as philosophy, sociology, history and economics. I have a PhD in Shakespearean Attribution Studies, which is the study of canonical literature utilising linguistic, textual and historical features in order to determine chronology and authorship. My undergraduate degree was in English and Philosophy and I have always maintained a strong interest in English literature (particularly Shakespeare, but also Modernist Poetry, the Novel and poetry in general) as well as philosophy. I am currently writing an extended series of articles on issues of ontology and being which combine an existentialist approach to questions of identity, combining contemporary takes by Christakis, Pinker and Harari (among others). I have experience teaching English literature, music, history, politics, philosophy etc and previously have taught ages 15-21.
I am an English teacher. I recently worked at a secondary school in Bath. I have a great deal of experience at teaching English across the age and ability range at KS3 and KS4 and KS5. I had responsibility for Literacy across the curriculum and overseeing KS3 schemes of learning. In my previous position at an all boys’ school, I was in charge of KS4, so my specialism is GCSE English Language and Literature. I have worked with all of the major exam boards: OCR, Eduqas, Cambridge IGCSE and AQA. I have most recently taught AQA. i am also a GCSE Examiner for AQA.. I have experience supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs including EAL, Dyslexia and ASD.
An enthusiastic and committed English teacher, I have twenty years of experience teaching English Language and Literature in comprehensive schools where I was consistently judged to be an outstanding teacher. After leaving full time teaching to be with my daughter, I started tutoring on a part time basis, supporting children with additional needs and home schooled students as well as those looking for GCSE preparation. Seven years on, I now work with close to thirty students per year. In addition, I examine for AQA GCSE English Language on both papers. Within a week of the pandemic hitting in 2019, I moved online with my tutees, using a combination of Zoom and Google Docs. I continue to work successfully online with many of them but also travel to homes within the Bristol area. I currently have no availability for evening tuition but do have some capacity in the day time which would suit home schooled students.
