I am a qualified Primary Teacher and have worked in Education for almost 20 years. I currently work in an Alternative Provision. I have taught from Foundation stage right up to Post-16, across the full range of subjects, including GCSE English, Maths and Science. I have an interest in Special Needs and currently act as the SENCO as well as also working with Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum. I have two children so can relate to being a parent as well as a teacher.
I am a current Head of English at an inner-city Leeds school. I have worked in a range of different settings, with a range of different students with varying needs. I have taught AQA English GCSE Language and Literature for the past five years and I have been an examiner of these subjects for the past four years also. This provides me with an insider's insight into what the exam board wants from students and how to help them achieve it. Furthermore, this also has ensured I have a good understanding of all the texts on the Literature GCSE. I have also worked closely with students with SEND and EAL needs, teaching English to students who are new to English. I have experience in guiding new to English students through their GCSEs whilst also teaching them basic to more intermediate English. In addition to GCSE English, I have taught a range of different topics at KS3 and I am able to expertly teach grammar, SPAG, writing and reading skills to year 7-9 students to prepare them for their GCSEs.
Having been a Qualified Primary Teacher for over 23 years, I have vast experience preparing resources and delivering lessons to different ages, cohorts and needs. Also working as a primary and adult level Art and English tutor, I have experience working 1:1 and in small groups, to either coach for exams or build confidence in particular academic areas. I have also had some recent experience teaching 11+ creative writing and spelling/vocabulary exam preparation. Having taught ESL/phonics/reading/writing online to Chinese children and tutored Math, Science and English through another virtual classroom, I also have over 2 years of experience teaching online using remote classroom platforms. Starting from the student's level I build on their confidence and existing skills to take the next steps in learning.
