I have been providing tuition in KS3 to GCSE English and KS2 11+ independent school exams for children with a wide variety of abilities and interests. I am also an AQA examiner of GCSE English Language with three years of marking experience and an excellent understanding of the Language and Literature exams. Students who struggle with English benefit from my teaching approach because we find strategies that work for them, and I have a good understanding of strategies that work for dyslexia, including phonics-based instruction. Moreover, all of my 11+ students to date have received places at Bristol Grammar, Redmaids' High, Clifton High, QEH and other independent schools in Bristol. I offer a free introductory session, which includes a thorough overview of my approach and an opportunity for us to get to know each other.
I am a passionate and dedicated teacher of English with over ten years’ experience of helping students achieve their potential, both in the classroom and as a tutor, in state and private sectors. I have experience across a range of boards, qualifications, ages and abilities: KS2, SATS, Common Entrance, Scholarships, GCSE and A level. I’m hoping to embark on a master’s degree in English next year and therefore am currently just tutoring. As a teacher and mum of four, I feel strongly about fostering an attitude that accounts for the varying pressures on young people nowadays. I focus on developing skills and interests that will last, rather than simply training pupils for an exam. Good relationships between teacher, student and parents are crucial, and I’ve always prided myself on facilitating and achieving these in the past. I offer a personalised and adaptive approach towards tuition, and am passionate about the roles language and literature have in helping young people to navigate our complex world.
