I have been involved in Education for the last 19 years. During this time, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from the age of 3 to 30, with a range of needs. Initially I worked in Primary schools, from Reception to KS2. I then went on to gain my specialist qualifications. A PGCE in Dyslexia and Literacy, and an Assessment Practising Certificate, I then began working for myself. I currently work in school settings and privately. This involves assessing pupils and if necessary diagnosing them with Specific Learning Difficulties, such as Dyslexia. I also work with pupils, both in Primary and Secondary school. Some children I work with just need an ‘extra boost’, or specific subject support. I also give support for exam preparation, study skills, organisational strategies etc. Alongside this I work with children with complex needs such as, dyslexia and dyscalculia, ranging from 4 to 18 year olds. I also support class teachers and provide SpLD training for schools.

I believe myself to be a bright, engaging and enthusiastic tutor and home schooler, creating a calm environment to allowing students to achieve their highest. I first get to know the student to allay any worries, and then identify what needs to be the focus of the sessions, I prepare a learning program of what will be covered when, so that both the parents and students can see the route we will take. This is extremely important when home-schooling, as there needs to be continuity built in. I discuss with parents how each session has gone, and leave the student with follow up work which we then go through in the next session to ensure the concepts covered are properly understood. Most of my 20 years has been spent teaching within Year 3, working in the public and private sector at Primary level, giving me a very good understanding of what constitutes high expectations for children working in the year group. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring, and making a difference. TEFL, University of Brighton (1993).
