I have been teaching English in secondary schools in Devon and Gloucester since 2000, with 9 years' experience as a Head of English. These include comprehensive and grammar schools and my current position in a private school. The most important thing I have learned in that time is that my specialist knowledge, however vital, is the least important part of my skill set. My role is to coach students to manage themselves as effective learners. I am experienced with GCSE, IGCSE and A Level, including English Language, English Literature and Media Studies. I have worked for OCR examining board as a coursework moderator and I currently teach Edexcel IGCSE English Language and English Literature, AQA A Level English Language and OCR A Level English Literature. I keep myself up to date with the specifications for all boards. I would welcome the chance to learn about a new student's goals and aspirations, and design a bespoke package of teaching and mentoring to help them on their journey.

I qualified in 1984 with my PGCE from Cambridge University and since then I have taught in a variety of schools in both the private and state sector in London & the South East where I taught at The Judd School in Tonbridge teaching English GCSE and Latin A level. My most recent school post was teaching GCSE English AQA Board in Sussex. I have been tutoring for the last 20 years for the Kent 11 Plus examination including my own children, who all gained places at Kent Grammar schools, and also tutoring English Literature & Language at GCSE and A Level. I have recently moved from Kent to Cornwall but I am still in touch with my students and it is wonderful to see them progressing in their lives. I can supply email addresses of my clients in Sussex / Kent whose children I taught English Literature and Language to on a one to one basis. My own children have dyslexia and ADHD and I have helped them in their studies to secure places at Manchester and Bristol University.
