Qualified teacher with 34 years experience working in the public sector mainly key stage 3 but also up to GCSE and A level in art and design, Key Stage 3 music, drama and I hold a certificate in teaching maths to GCSE from Plymouth University. I have taught grade 5 theory in music and can teach piano. I have also worked as a support assistant with SEN pupils and have taught adult education in the arts.
Qualified and experienced primary school teacher now running my own messy play/playgroup business. My last teaching job (left August 2021) lasted for 6 years teaching across the primary and secondary curriculum to children/young people with SEN, SEMH, behavioural and all learners with ECHP in place. My extensive experience here allows me to attune well to a whole range of learning needs I may be faced with and I enjoyed the challenge of every day being different to the previous. The idea of tutoring is really exciting because I am able to adapt my teaching style, lesson content and use of language to really engage my young person without the external noise of other children and the environment which in a mainstream classroom can be a negative experience for learners with additional needs.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher with five years university teaching experience and two years college teaching experience. I am currently teaching, part-time, at the University of Exeter's English and Film Department. I am a Cambridge International Assessment Specialist. I taught in primary school and high school. I am currently a doctoral researcher.
I have a passion for education and learning, and for English and History. I am very self-motivated, well organised, excellent at timekeeping, driven to achieve my goals and ambitions, support students to achieve theirs and engage with my own CPD. I have experience of teaching and supporting a diverse range of students, and experience of teaching in different educational settings. As part of my PGCE, I worked at City College Plymouth teaching Functional Skills and GCSE English to young adults and mature learners. Since then I have taught KS3 and KS4 English as a Supply Teacher, have worked as a Personal Tutor to a GCSE student and have taught EAL students at the Europa Summer School, the Meridian School and at Mercator. Since January 2020 I have been employed by Cornwall College to teach GCSE and Functional Skills English at Duchy College Stoke Climsland. I firmly believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to succede and that all educational environments be a safe place.
I am a long-time professional teacher. I have taught in Pupil Referral Units at secondary level and primary schools in and around London. I have run my own successful home tuition business for the last 16 years. Most of my pupils stay with me for a number of years as they enjoy their lessons. I teach English from KS2 to KS3 and Maths from KS1 to GCSE.
