Member since 2019 Mr Nick D

I am a highly qualified, motivated Teacher of English and Special Educational Needs, with 25 years of experience. I taught at Queens` School, Bushey, Hertfordshire, where I was Deputy Senco, before moving back to my hometown of Doncaster to care for an elderly parent. I love 1-1 and small group work and would love to do a small amount of tuition if possible. I have taught English at Secondary level (11-18) and have a great deal of experience with students who find the curriculum challenging, including teaching at entry level. I have also taught basic numeracy, preparing students to tackle the Foundation Paper at Maths GCSE. Most recently, I have been tutoring GCSE students in English Language and English Literature, with the aim of raising grades. This has been achieved by focusing on the exact requirements of each, individual question, including the specific vocabulary needed. I have found that by improving student knowledge and understanding of the questions, grades can be raised from 4/5 to 6/7 or higher.

I am a fully qualified and experienced primary teacher and am able to confidently teach all subjects within the Primary National Curriculum; from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1/ Key Stage 2 and across all ages and abilities. Currently, I am providing numerous families with; - Extensive support for home schooling/ lockdown/ general tuition - Preparation for end of year tests, including Y2 and Y6 SATs - Deliver tuition (with 100% pass rate) for independent and grammar school entrance exams (M/E/V/NV) - Some SEN experience (Poor working memory/ ADHD/ Dyslexia/ Speech & Language) . My main strengths are when teaching children who are struggling in Mathematics and English, especially if they have a ‘fear’ of the subject- breaking down any barriers to learning, by use of positive praise and developing their confidence with a ‘can do’ attitude.
