I have been an English teacher for eighteen years, Head of English for eight of those years, and a Head of School for the past six years. As well as teaching English at KS3, 4 and 5, I am also a GCSE examiner and KS2 SATs examiner. I have also examined A-level Literature. I have taught all exam boards, either in my role as an English teacher or tutor, and my results at GCSE and A-Level are consistently excellent. At A-Level I tutor in the areas of genre, textual study, context, wider reading and extended coursework elements. Throughout lockdown, I taught via Zoom, and I am happy to offer tutoring via this medium to students as I have found it to be an excellent method of intervention. I graduated from the University of Durham in 1998 and worked as a Chartered Accountant for four years before completed my PGCE in English in 2003.
I have been working in education for 16 years. I specialise in teaching English to children in Key Stage 3 and 4, including those with special educational needs. I believe passionately that learning should be fun for every child. That’s why I create bespoke lessons that are tailored to children’s individual learning styles to help enhance their skills and unlock their potential. I look forward to those light bulb moments when I help a child to understand something they have previously found puzzling, and see their confidence build. If you are looking for an experienced English teacher who can offer extra support now or in the future, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
