Mr Lingyu K

I am a native speaker who is fluent in both traditional and simplified Chinese I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher and have several years’ experience working as a Chinese language teacher. Throughout my teaching career, I have striven to deliver a learning experience infused with authenticity, enthusiasm, inclusion and inspiration. A common feature of all my previous teaching assignments is my desire to contribute to the wider life of the schools to help children expand learning beyond the curriculum and achieve both academic and personal growth. For instance, I volunteered to run an language club facilitating in-depth study of Chinese language and culture where I demonstrated the cultural, ethnic and demographic diversity of China (just like its European counterparts) so that children could appreciate and grasp the intricate meaning and cultural messages behind languages and make informed language decisions in different social situations avoiding generalisations and cultural assumptions.

Before this I taught as a qualified science teacher for 10 years. I started teaching online some time before the pandemic and use a variety of software which allows for effective collaboration, lesson recording. Students get clear organised notes, simulations, videos which can be accessed at any time. I also run seminars and training to other tutors on how to teach online effectively. Before my career as a science teacher, I spent 5 years travelling around Asia teaching which is where I learnt my love of teaching to others. I then came back to the UK to work in schools as a teaching support assistant for a year and a half before training as a science teacher specialising in Physics.
