I am a qualified and experienced teacher with many years' experience in both the state and private sectors, currently working as a private tutor, face-to-face and/or via Zoom. I teach English from Primary through Prep and up to GCSE and A Level; also Maths from Primary through to GCSE; and Sociology at GCSE and A Level. All my previous GCSE students have improved their grades by at least one band from school predictions; many have improved by two bands and several have increased by three. I have tutored numerous, successful 11+ and 13+ candidates and can also offer help with school entrance interview skills. I am patient and encouraging and my students grow in knowledge, skills and self-belief. I also have SEN experience.
As a tutor, I enjoy helping young people (and parents!) break down barriers in their learning and build confidence. I work with young people from 6 years old to 20 years old. I`ve taught Maths and English from Year 3 all the way up to GCSE so I understand the likely journey a young person will need to take in these subjects. However, not all routes to obtaining the GCSE, building a child`s confidence and/or addressing gaps in learning are the same. Every child`s journey is unique and I enjoy trying to find the strengths and address the weaknesses. I really emphasise to parents of children that I tutor that this is not `more school`. I keep sessions well-paced and interactive and we work together to find a way forward. Over the past few years, I have been coaching young people aged 15-21 who need help with future planning for employment, further or higher education. I have also been teaching sessions on mental health and wellbeing.
